I am sure you are well aware…

Yesterday, was the start of the new Tax year.

Not normally the most fascinating of subjects I must admit.

But this time it was painful.

From this day forth...

The Taxman will be taking a larger slice out of your take home pay.  :-(

To put this into perspective..

Dental Nurses will take a £219 a-year pay cut on average.

Hygienists will take a larger pay cut.

This is on top of rocketing energy costs which is already hurting workers back pockets.

No wonder they are calling it the great cost of living squeeze.

Here is a little summary of how the additional taxes will work =>

So what is the future outlook?

There is no doubt as a country we face some difficult decisions about how healthcare and dentistry will be funded.

A decision previous Governments haven’t been brave enough to face.

Long and short.

We can’t expect to stick to a relatively low taxation system like the USA…

AND, expect a top notch welfare state like our Scandinavian cousins.

Something has to give.

A choice needs to be made…

And, It would appear the Government is finally taking the latter route,

BUT, there is a bittersweet for you personally.

All the additional tax revenue being raised is heading straight to the healthcare industry, Dentistry included.

Some serious additional funding on the horizon there!

This should mean better staffing ratios, better equipment and hopefully some inflation busting pay increases for dental workers in the future...

We will have to patiently wait and see.
