iTero Guide: iTero Scan, MyiTero Login & Skills Dental Teams Need

If you work in a modern UK practice, there’s a good chance you’ve used — or will soon use — an iTero scanner. Made by Align Technology, the company behind Invisalign, iTero has become one of the most recognised names in digital dentistry.

This guide covers what an iTero scan is, how the MyiTero login portal works, and why iTero experience is fast becoming a skill practices look for when hiring dental nurses, therapists and associates.

What is an iTero scan?

An iTero scan is a digital 3D impression of a patient’s teeth and gums, captured with a handheld intraoral scanner. It replaces messy putty impressions with a full-colour model on screen in minutes — more comfortable for patients and easier to share with labs.

The current flagship is the iTero Lumina intraoral scanner, which comes in cart and mobile configurations. The Lumina Pro version adds NIRI (near-infrared imaging), which helps clinicians assess oral health without radiation.

iTero scans are used across three main workflows:

  • Restorative — crowns, bridges, implants and bite splints, with scans sent straight to the lab.
  • Orthodontic — iTero is built to feed Invisalign cases directly, and patients can see a simulated outcome of their treatment chairside.
  • Lab — iTero-enabled labs receive digital cases from connected practices, cutting remakes and turnaround times.

Clinicians featured on the iTero site report shorter chair time, fewer remakes and staff who pick up the scanner quickly. For practices, that means more productive appointments; for patients, a smoother experience.

MyiTero login: what it is and how to access it

MyiTero is iTero’s web portal. It mirrors the scanner’s interface, so the team can review and manage cases from any internet-connected device rather than tying up the scanner itself.

To log in, go to itero.com and select My iTero Login in the footer, or go direct to the MyiTero sign-in page. Use the credentials issued to your practice or lab.

Once in, practices can typically:

  • create patient prescription forms before the appointment, freeing up scanner time
  • view 3D scans on any device to explain treatment to patients
  • run the Invisalign Outcome Simulator and progress assessments away from the scanner
  • export cases as STL or PLY files for open-system workflows
  • connect and manage labs

Login problems are best handled by iTero customer support, available via the support page. iTero also runs free online training on getting the most from MyiTero, listed under Education & Resources on the UK site.

Why iTero skills matter for your dental career

As more UK practices go digital, confident iTero users are in demand. Practices offering Invisalign or a high volume of restorative work want team members who can scan accurately and quickly from day one — without a long training curve.

  • Dental nurses — scanning experience strengthens your CV, especially for orthodontic and aligner-led practices.
  • Hygienists and therapists — NIRI and 3D visuals support patient education and treatment conversations.
  • Associates — digital workflows mean faster case submission and fewer remakes, which matters for UDA and private income.
  • Locums — practices value locums who can step straight onto their scanner without slowing the list.

If you’re putting your CV together, list the scanner models you’ve used and the workflows you’ve handled (e.g. “iTero Lumina — Invisalign records, crown preps”).

iTero FAQs

What is an iTero scan?

A digital 3D impression of the teeth and gums taken with a handheld iTero intraoral scanner, replacing traditional putty impressions.

Where is the MyiTero login?

It’s linked as “My iTero Login” in the footer of itero.com. It gives practices and labs web access to their iTero cases.

Is iTero the same as Invisalign?

No. Both are made by Align Technology. iTero is the scanner; Invisalign is the clear aligner system. iTero scans are commonly used to submit Invisalign cases.

Do dental nurses use iTero scanners?

In many UK practices, trained dental nurses take or assist with iTero scans, particularly for orthodontic and aligner records, within their scope of practice and with appropriate training.
